The project combines a 250 MW solar plant with a 150 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and is located in Kyindu Ranch, Chongwe District, Lusaka province. Airumi New Energy Zambia Limited, an international new high-tech enterprise, is committed to clean energy and R&D and manufacturing of power technologies. It aspires to providing global customers with high-efficiency and eco-friendly power solutions and actively promoting the green transformation. Independent power producer Globeleq has launched construction on Zambia's largest hybrid renewable energy development, the Leoprads Hill Solar and Battery Project. In a further boost to the uptake of renewables among large miners, Barrick has said it will procure substantial battery storage capacity at its Lumwana copper mine in Zambia, where it has also signed a deal to significantly increase its offtake from utility Zesco. Barrick also indicated progress. Zambia, an important economy in southern Africa, has recently introduced favorable policies for photovoltaics and energy storage that are attracting international energy companies. The project will help facilitate the integration.
