According to the taxi trajectory and the photovoltaic output characteristics in the power grid, Reference Shan et al. (2019) realized the matching of charging load and photovoltaic power output by planning fast charging piles, which promoted the consumption of new energy while satisfying the charging demand of EVs.
The capacity planning of charging piles is restricted by many factors. It not only needs to consider the construction investment cost, but also takes into account the charging demand, vehicle flow, charging price and the impact on the safe operation of the power grid (Bai & Feng, 2022; Campaa et al., 2021).
Kuang said China's current charging infrastructure has three problems: fast charging facilities cannot refuel cars fast enough, slow charging stations are not widespread enough and the deployment of charging piles is poorly planned, with some piles lying idle while many EV owners cannot find them easily.
A large fleet of EVs can serve an important power balancing role in the power system through participation in demand response. Different types of EVs show diverse potentials and cost sensitivities in delivering smart charging. EV smart charging can benefit various stakeholders.
EV charging demand is mainly decided by the number of EVs, driving intensity of EV users and the vehicle efficiency. All these factors may differ across different regions and this paper therefore select Shanghai, one of the cities with fastest EV growth and penetration rate in China, for a case study.
