The process involved in testing lithium-ion drill battery is as follows: Before testing the battery, it is important to plug the battery in and charge it for at least 45 minutes. When you are ready with your multimeter, unplug the battery. Attach the multimeter probes to the positive and the negative battery terminals.
Unfortunately, there isn't going to be a single solution to the problem of how to replace lithium-ion batteries, which is why people have been dreaming up all sorts of variations on the format, to solve the world's energy storage needs. Lithium's close chemical cousin, sodium, has been the basis for research into new batteries for years now.
First, this project is not a no-risk plan! Lithium batteries involve a lot of risk, and the possible outcomes can include smoke and fire. With that out of the way, use 18650 Li-ion cells that are very specifically designed for Tool Use... they are the only ones that can survive the very-high current discharge without damage.
Electric current. For drills or screw drive we should use high current batteries. I used 30A lithium. -Voltage. My old batteries are rated at 12V. Every li-ion battery 18650 has 3-4.2V. And so I decided to connect 3 pieces in series. My battery pack has 3*3=9V (discharged) and 4.2*3=12.6V (charged).
The BMS must also monitor the temperature of the battery pack, shutting it off absolutely if it exceeds 40 to 50°C, depending on the cell mfr specs. It's really not a project for those not very familiar with the care and feeding of lithium ion technology. Stick with new NIMH cells.... so little risk!
