Re: Busbar as Battery Interconnects I have run into many inustrial battery banks used in power plants to supply emergency turbine lube oil cooling and other emergency loads with bus bars between the batteries. These battery rooms are quite impressive with numerous very large batteries hooked in series. My former employer also used bus extensively in off grid batter banks.

Even when not in use, a lead-acid battery gradually loses charge, and prolonged inactivity can lead to the buildup of lead sulfate crystals on the plates. This reduces the battery''s capacity and can lead to premature failure. To prevent this, batteries should be charged regularly, even if they are not in use, to maintain their health.

I don''t believe the batteries should be connected with busbars unless the battery terminals are receptive to them. For example with the lead terminals on most car batteries and golf cart batteries, busbars don''t for on. Also, when you have 1” copper bar, it needs to fit just right, there is no play in it, not even 1/64 th on an inch.

We also do not recommend putting a lithium into the engine bay, as the extreme temperatures experienced can lead to significant reduction in the longevity of the battery. The lead oxide reacts with the sulphur to give the plates a positive charge. Learn MoreIn the realm of electrical engineering, battery bus bars, and battery cables play pivotal roles in ensuring efficient power distribution. While they may seem similar at first glance, they serve different purposes and have distinct characteristics.
Yes, battery bus bars can function in high-temperature environments if manufacturers use materials like copper or aluminum with proper insulation. Always check the manufacturer's temperature ratings. How do I determine the right size for a battery bus bar?
Current Capacity: Bus bars can carry higher currents due to their larger cross-sectional area and lower resistance. Heat Dissipation: Bus bars have superior heat dissipation capabilities to battery cables, making them suitable for high-power applications. Installation and Maintenance
Regular Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to check for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage to bus bars and battery cables. Cleaning: Keep bus bars and battery cables clean and free from dust, dirt, and debris to ensure optimal performance.
If the system has only one battery bank you should connect the battery bank in the middle of the busbars. But in the case of several parallel battery banks or smart batteries, they should also be distributed evenly along the busbars. If the system has individual batteries, also intermix these with the inverter/chargers and the solar chargers.
If a large battery bank is needed, we do not recommend that you construct the battery bank out of numerous series/parallel 12V lead acid batteries. The maximum is at around 3 (or 4) paralleled strings. The reason for this is that with a large battery bank like this, it becomes tricky to create a balanced battery bank.
