New York, December 10, 2024 – Battery prices saw their biggest annual drop since 2017. Lithium-ion battery pack prices dropped 20% from 2023 to a record low of $115 per kilowatt-hour, according to analysis by research provider BloombergNEF (BNEF).
BNEF forecasts pack prices to decline by USD 3 per kWh in 2025. BloombergNEF (BNEF) has noticed that raw material and battery component prices have been rising steadily since it began tracking the market in 2010, aided by soaring inflation, and this has now led to the first ever increase in lithium-ion battery pack prices over that time period. For battery electric vehicle (BEV) packs in particular, prices were $138/kWh on a volume-weighted average basis in 2022. At the cell level, average BEV prices were just $115/kWh. This indicates that on average, cells account for 83 percent of the total pack price.
