The inverter's job is to synthesize three sinusoidal current waveforms to drive an AC motor. S1-S6 are switched on and off thousands of time per second using a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategy to create effective output voltages that vary sinusoidally in time.
All inverter topologies basically incorporate an oscillator frequency which is then amplified using power devices to high current levels before dumping into the step-up transformer for the final voltage boosting procedures.
